Trump Jr. Tried To Obtain Evidence Against Clinton Foundation From Russian Lawyer

Donald Trump Jr. held a meeting with a Russian lawyer during the 2016 presidential campaign at Trump Tower where he requested any evidence of illegal campaign donations to the Clinton Foundation.

Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya told the Senate Judiciary Committee that Trump Jr. asked her if she had any evidence as to whether or not the Clinton Foundation had received any illegal campaign funds.

The meeting was attended by Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, and Russian lobbyists and businessmen, but it was long understood that Trump Jr. only accepted the meeting to obtain incriminating evidence on Hillary Clinton. Veselnitskaya told the committee that her response was that she had no such evidence, and says at that point Trump Jr. became uninterested in the meeting entirely.

“Today, I understand why it took place to begin with and why it ended so quickly with a feeling of mutual disappointment and time wasted,” the Russian lawyer wrote. “The answer lies in the roguish letters of Mr. Goldstone.”

Veselnitskaya claims that Rob Goldstone — a music producer — organized the meeting, and she wasn’t aware that he’d promised Trump Jr. damaging information on the former presidential candidate. She claims that Trump Jr. misunderstood the purpose of the meeting and that she only wanted to speak to him about the Magnitsky’s Act sanctions on Russia.
