According to CNN, among the dead are two people and possibly the shooter — though the multiple reports thus far have conflicting casualty reports. Local news affiliates have reported at least 15 people have been injured in the attack.
It should be noted that the communications director for the nearby city of Farmington, NM said the shooter was “down” but did not specify whether that meant they were injured, dead or captured.
Local authorities have said the threat to the community is believed to be over. The school was evacuated and nearby schools were placed on lockdown.
Aztec High School, near the Navajo Nation, is around 180 miles northwest of — and a three-hour drive from — the city of Albuquerque.
This is a developing story and it will be updated as more details emerge.
