The RNC Is Renewing Its Support for Roy Moore

The Republican National Committee has reinstated its support of embattled Senate candidate Roy Moore on the same day President Donald Trump tweeted out his support for Moore.

Moore, whose poll numbers took a dive when multiple women came forward with numerous allegations of past sexual misconduct — with some instances taking place when Moore was in his early 30’s and the women were in their early teens — and Republican organizations largely pulled their support. Top Republicans, including Senate Majority Mitch McConnell, indicated that Moore should suspend his campaign. Naturally, he later walked that comment back.

The RNC had pulled out of a fundraising agreement with the Moore campaign and suspended its field operations on behalf of Moore in mid-November, as allegations mounted.

“We stand with the president,” an RNC official told Breitbart, which broke the news on Monday night. Another source later confirmed the report’s accuracy to The Hill.

Shortly after the allegations came out, RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel explained that the organization had pulled its funding, but Moore could not be removed from the ballot.

“The allegations were obviously very concerning, concerning to the degree that [the RNC] pulled our resources,” McDaniel said. “[But] Roy Moore cannot be replaced on the ballot. He is the candidate. The Alabama [Republican] Party has stood by that. Now the Alabama voters are going to have to be the judge and jury on this.”

Early Monday morning, Trump said it was important that the Alabama Senate seat did not go to a Democrat.

“Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama. We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!” Trump tweeted, bashing Democrat Doug Jones, the former US Attorney for Northern Alabama with a track record of winning civil rights cases.

“Putting Pelosi/Schumer Liberal Puppet Jones into office in Alabama would hurt our great Republican Agenda of low on taxes, tough on crime, strong on military and borders…& so much more. Look at your 401-k’s since Election. Highest Stock Market EVER! Jobs are roaring back!” Trump continued.

Moore has rebounded in the polls as the December 12 special election approaches.
