Arizona Republican Senator Jeff Flake has made a donation to the campaign of Democrat Doug Jones, who is running against Republican Roy Moore to represent Alabama in the Senate.
Moore has been accused by numerous women of past sexual misconduct, particularly when the women were in their teens and Moore in his early 30s.
After the Republican National Committee and prominent Republican lawmakers initially withdrew their support for Moore, they appeared to come back to the fold following President Donald Trump’s full endorsement of Moore this week. After the RNC announced it will resume its fundraising agreement with Moore’s campaign, Republican leaders like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell walked back their previous remarks.
Flake tweeted a photo of the $100 check he wrote to Jones’ campaign. On the “For” line, he wrote: “Country over Party.”

Flake has previously said he would not run for re-election in 2018, citing the tone of the political climate set by Trump.
“Reckless, outrageous, and undignified behavior has become excused and countenanced as “telling it like it is,” when it is actually just reckless, outrageous, and undignified,” Flake said. “And when such behavior emanates from the top of our government, it is something else: It is dangerous to a democracy. Such behavior does not project strength — because our strength comes from our values. It instead projects a corruption of the spirit, and weakness.”
