The National Republican Senatorial Committee has filed paperwork to halt their fundraising efforts for Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore, following allegations that he had molested a 14 year old girl. The GOP’s campaign arm removed its name from the Alabama 2017 Senate Victory Committee, officially cutting Moore off from the Senate GOP’s financial resources.
This decision comes one day after a Washington Post story published the experiences of four women who reported inappropriate advances on them when they were underage. One of these women was only 14 at the time, accusing Moore of having inappropriate contact with her when he was in his 30s and working as an Alabama attorney general.
Dozens of Senate Republicans spoke out against Moore following the news, saying he should drop out of the race if the allegations were true.
Moore’s campaign has accused the woman of being a fabrication made up by the Democratic Party, despite the fact that his alleged victim voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and has no connections to Democratic challenger Doug Jones.
