Chess legend Garry Kasparov rips Trump for threatening NBC

Legendary chess player and outspoken Putin critic Garry Kasparov just exposed the hypocrisy of President Trump’s threat to revoke the broadcast licenses of networks like NBC while happily allowing Russian media outlets to broadcast without complaint.

“Russia attacked the US and Putin’s propaganda channel Russia Today still broadcasts in the US. But Trump threatens NBC for criticizing him,” Kasparov tweeted.

In addition to being one of the all-time greatest chess legends, Russian-born Kasparov has dedicated much of his life to challenging the brutal policies of Vladimir Putin, risking his own life in the process. He once attempted to run against Putin for president, but Russia’s restrictive campaign laws prevented him from doing so. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Human Rights Foundation.

Trump has long been an enemy of the press, dismissing all critical coverage as “fake news,” but Trump has now taken aim at NBC after the outlet published a report that Trump wanted to expand the U.S.’s nuclear arsenal “tenfold,” as well as a story asserting that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson privately referred to Trump as “a fucking moron.”

“It is frankly disgusting the way the press is able to write whatever they want to write, and people should look into it,” Trump said today of the First Amendment.

As usual, Trump has not been able to prove any of the coverage was actually fake.

The Russian government-run Russia Today has published some material critical of Trump, but he has never attacked it with the same vehemence as he does with many American media outlets.
