Bannon slams Trump Tower meeting with Russians as ‘treasonous’

Former Trump administration chief strategist Steve Bannon seems to believe that Donald Trump Jr. committed treason when he and other Trump campaign staffers met with a Russian attorney promising dirt on opponent Hillary Clinton in 2016.

In an upcoming book about the Trump White House by Michael Wolff, Bannon called the Trump Tower meeting between Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and a Kremlin-linked Russian attorney “treasonous” and “unpatriotic,” according to the Guardian.

“The three senior guys in the campaign thought it was a good idea to meet with a foreign government inside Trump Tower in the conference room on the 25th floor – with no lawyers. They didn’t have any lawyers,” Bannon told Wolff. “Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad shit, and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately.”

Ahead of the June 2016 meeting, when an intermediary promised documents to “incriminate” Clinton, Trump Jr. said, “I love it” and hosted the meeting instead of alerting the FBI about possible foreign intervention in an American election.

They’re going to crack Don Junior like an egg on national TV,” Bannon told Wolff.

Instead, Bannon proposed the meeting should have happened “in a Holiday Inn in Manchester, New Hampshire, with your lawyers who meet with these people,” and that any information could be handed “down to Breitbart … or some other more legitimate publication.”

Bannon said that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia will focus heavily on money laundering, hence Mueller’s hiring of a money laundering expert, the money laundering indictment against Paul Manafort and the subpoena of Deutsche Bank, which has lent millions of dollars to the Kushners and worked with the Trumps.

“Their path to fucking Trump goes right through Paul Manafort, Don Jr. and Jared Kushner … It’s as plain as a hair on your face,” Bannon said in the book.

On the Deutsche matter, Bannon said: “The Kushner shit is greasy. They’re going to go right through that. They’re going to roll those two guys up and say play me or trade me.”

Bannon has long feuded with Kushner — a dynamic that seems to have contributed to Bannon’s exit from the White House.
